[CPU] Apple's "Liquid Glass" is a UX Disaster, but...
That's not really what I wanted to focus on today.
Greetings, Programs!
Like you, I watched this year’s WWDC keynote with bated breath. I was hoping that Apple’s rumored “overhaul” would not just be lipstick on a pig. Boy, was I wrong - and it seems that I’m not alone in thinking this new experience will be a UX disaster. I love the idea of a “liquid glass” experience, but it’s all about the implementation - and I have little faith that enough has changed / will change to make the new experience meaningful (or fundamentally better).
I’m still using a Mac, primarily (in sore need of an upgrade) - but will more than likely stick with my choice for an Android experience. Yes, I’ll try iOS 26 when it rolls out of beta on the iPhone I’m currently using as a webcam for my live streams - but am not even close to switching back to it as a so-called “daily driver.”
Why do I keep putting “words in quotes?” I don’t know - but, since Apple no longer cares about usability, why should I?
I Wanted to Talk about Something Else
Yes, I’ve been busy this week - cranking out new web apps and really finding that process to be exciting and worthwhile. I’m making new things, you’re enjoying new things, and everything’s just peachy.
I think I’ve finally found what it is I’d like to do now and into the future - thanks to AI and you.
Have you ever been so close to a breakthrough, that feeling of having a game-changing idea on the tip of your fingers, only to be held back by the limits of your tools? Ugh:
It’s a special kind of frustration, knowing you could do more, create more, and share more if you just had a little more horsepower. That’s exactly where I am right now, and I wanted to share what’s happening behind the scenes.
For a while now, my mission has been simple: to build and share useful things with this community. Whether it’s an app that solves a nagging problem or a resource that makes your day a little easier, I’ve loved creating and sharing it all with you, no strings attached. Your feedback and engagement have been the fuel that keeps this engine running, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built together with the resources at hand. It’s certainly been more fun than simply “creating content!”
But I’ve started to hit a wall. The tools I’ve been using to develop and code my apps have been fantastic, but they have their limits. I’m dreaming of building more complex apps for you - and more frequently. To do that, I need to upgrade my toolkit. Slightly.
I’m hoping to subscribe to Gemini Ultra (with far fewer limitations than I’m running into today). For quick app development, Gemini Pro has been a game-changer for me. Gemini Ultra’s capabilities will allow me to troubleshoot complex problems faster, and ultimately, turn ambitious ideas into reality far more efficiently. This isn't about creating paywalled content; it's about supercharging my ability to build the very tools and experiences I give away to all of you.
This is where you come in. If you find value in the apps and resources I create, I’d be so grateful if you’d consider upgrading to a paid subscription. Each person who switches to a paid plan directly contributes to covering the monthly cost of my essential tools, empowering me to innovate and share more with our entire community.
A paid subscription is the best way to support this next chapter, but it’s not the only way. You can also support this work through:
A one-time donation: If a subscription isn’t your thing, a small one-time contribution still makes a huge difference.
YouTube Membership: Yes, you’ll even get vlogs as they get published, not just at the scheduled release time. I’m already ahead by a few weeks.
Twitch Subscription: Even if you’re just using your free monthly Amazon Prime sub, that’s great. Or, you can just set it and forget it - even though I’m always streaming “Behind the Scenes.”
Patreon Support: Yeah, I still have the legacy Patreon account - though, I am looking to update the tier structure as I’m much more happy developing these web apps using Gemini (and, potentially, at some point, beyond).
Discord Support: Yes, Discord has monthly subscriptions as well.
Sharing my app links: Tell a friend, share a link on social media, or forward this email. Every new person who discovers our community helps.
No matter how you choose to support this journey, please know how much I appreciate it. Your belief in this work, whether through financial support or simply by being an active member of this community, means the world to me. I am genuinely excited about what this upgrade will allow us to build together.
Yes, *this* is what I would love to do indefinitely - but that will take a substantial amount of ongoing support, and I’m already showing my commitment to showing up and making things. What would your support go to?
Covering ongoing (living) expenses so that I’m not constantly searching for freelance or consulting gigs.
Helping me with all my critical monthly subscriptions - and Google Ultra is a big one. You don’t wanna know what my internet bill is, though (unless you do).
Keeping my hardware refreshed. As I mentioned, I’ve been looking to upgrade my Mac to better run models locally.
Thank you for being here and for making all of this possible.
What I Built Last Week
Yes, I’ve actually been doing things instead of just talking about doing things. And you get to play with everything as I get them done.
This is the kind of thing you’re supporting… if you care to support.
And I’m already (actively) working on ‘vibe coding’ the next apps!
Yours Digitally,
Loving all this! Going to contribute soon how I can!
