[CPU] I Can't Stop Vibe Coding and Now I'm Building This Free Web Arcade for You
I've been busy so that I can keep you busy.
Greetings, Programs!
Thanks to the total magic of so-called “vibe coding,” I’ve been cranking out new web apps at seemingly-breakneck speed. And you can try ‘em all for free (and share ‘em with friends & colleagues if you’re so inclined):
I’ll be doing more of this kind of web app development live on Tuesdays. I’ve been doing it intermittently on Twitch as well. And, in fact, I’m thinking about just doing it on Thursday evenings to boot (instead of or perhaps with my idea of “AI Olympics.” Because it’s just so addictive to me. I can’t believe what I’m able to now with technology.
Yes, I built all of that.
And I’m not a software developer.
Or am I?
This week, I hope to get a new version of my old fUNICODE app online - as well as something a bit more 3D?
So, Here’s the Thing…
I’m not sure many of you (currently subscribed to this) are interested in my level of help anymore. Nothing wrong with that - at all. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop offering or trying. ;)
Building anything new isn’t easy, and refining what’s already out there is damn-near impossible because people have an idea of who you are (and who you are not).
Well, I’m horrible when it comes to fitting molds.
That said: if you are interested in diving deeper and helping *me* figure out where to take this kind of fun stuff next, then I’m ready to spend the time focused on helping you grow, too.
That starts with support. I’ve settled on the same level of subscription across platforms, generally - including with this newsletter. If you’re interested, you can upgrade your newsletter subscription (monthly or annual).
I hope to refactor this newsletter to be packed with tips. What kind of tips? I’m not quite sure yet, but they’ll likely be the kinds of tips that I need in my life, too. That’s what LockerGnome was all about. And maybe in the process (with enough support) the LockerGnome brand and website could make a similar return albeit with a slightly different scope than “just free content.”
Okay, fine. You need a tip? Start using AI. Don’t know how to prompt? I just found this amazing prompt booster (free for ChatGPT). It takes a basic prompt and fleshes it out fully so that you can start getting better results. Maybe I’d just send those tips to paid subscribers? I don’t even know if you’re personally or professionally interested, but… I am.
So, either way - I hope you have fun in my arcade.
More to come.
Yours Digitally,
https://portalchess.com/Games. Hey Chris, I hope you can use this. I thought I’d share some vibe coding examples that simply utilize JavaScript and HTML. I use a text editor to save the HTML—a very simple programming solution. I haven’t seen many Asteroids examples. Devolution is based on an old Mac game, Icon Quest, while Portal Chess is completely original. Portal Chess was far beyond my ability to program. I created a multiplatform rule enforcement engine utilizing live code but couldn’t get past check and checkmate—they hurt my brain. However, JavaScript and AI to the rescue. This version includes basic functionality and stalemate. I should add an option to offer a draw at some point. I also don’t allow move undos… hmm. The craziest feature is an AI opponent, all possible due to our AI overlords. I think the most fun game is Asteroids Advance, though it has a sound bug—sorry about that. I was fighting a server bug, so it didn’t get fixed. Maybe if I get complaints, I’ll fix it, squeaky wheel and grease kind of thing. Note that the cool graphics are largely due to Gemini. Grok 3 absolutely sucks at layout. My two go-to tools at the moment.
