[CPU] LockerGnome Forums on Discord Now?!
...kinda sorta, but only if they'd get used for that purpose.
Greetings, Programs!
So, you might’ve seen me experimenting last week with a 24/7 live video on YouTube and… I’m going to get back to doing it, but with an extreme (awesome) twist…
Me + You in the Same Live Stream with Others
Using StreamYard, I'll be inviting YOU to join alongside me with your own geeky / nerdy activities (like playing video games)! So, if you’d like to create something different with me, join my new Discord server for updates.
Once I know where y’all want to take this experiment, we can add new forums (channels) there. And, certainly, if you want to participate directly in the stream with me, communications will be happening in [that] Discord.
So, yeah. Join the Discord if you’re interested in helping, participating, or whatever.
What’s this 24/7 “show” gonna look like?
Imagine an ongoing grid o’ geekiness there on YouTube - for you to pop into at any time your regular feed isn’t feeding you anything of interest.
What’s happening at any given moment is contingent on who is participating and what they’re doing at the time. It’ll always be different (yet the same)!
We’ll be making it up, refining as we go along - so, let’s play. Be patient, be flexible.
Imagine, joining me virtually at any time (if space is available), with your mic muted:
Playing video games, table games, arcade / pinball
Toy pickups / organizing / showcasing, collection tours
Building tech / hardware, software dev, etc.
Constructing models, LEGO, etc. [just like you’re welcome to do on MakerDeck]
Unboxing new fun stuff, mail calls, hauls
You have another idea in mind? Suggest it!
We’ll be able to do all sorts of coordinated, scheduled, or even impromptu events in-stream:
General "kidult" activities, conversations, news
Retro, vintage, nostalgia showcases & shows
Pop culture, movie, TV discussions / reactions
Deeper industry talk (community, entrepreneurship, tech, etc.)
Playing the same video game simultaneously
I think it’ll kinda be like our MakerDeck (certainly, there’ll be some degree of geeky crossover - and I’ll be pushing all you makers over there indefinitely). However, since “Chris Pirillo” is a great many things with a great many interests, this stream will be like my classic stream with a *far* greater variety - completely dependent on any of you participating and bringing your own geekiness / nerdiness to the virtual table.
What’s to be expected?
Since it’ll be the “Chris Pirillo’s Universe” stream, expect that one of the 9 slots will probably be taken up by me working at my desk in silence (if I’m there) - but I’ll certainly open my mic and facilitate when something interesting is going on. Typically, however, mics should be (and likely will be) off.
So, again, the general experiment game plan is currently to:
Establish a 24/7 "kidult" variety live stream powered by StreamYard on Chris Pirillo's YouTube.
Keep a "Chris Pirillo" feed present in the grid, but not as the constant focus of the stream's content.
Record video (either "shows" or clips) to re-upload to the same channel for discovery.
Invite any of y'all to join (a la MakerDeck) and stream aforementioned activities.
Try to schedule events - like interviews or roundtables - to bring in new folks.
When is this starting?
I’m putting all the pieces together and (obviously) some things will need to be updated as soon as the ball is truly rolling. Getting a new Discord set up was a priority as it’s the primary communication vehicle for establishing processes.
I don’t know how well this is going to work or if it’s going to work indefinitely. That’s kinda not up to me, really. I don’t even have any stream moderators in place yet, mind you - this is all just beginning to come together.
So, why is “LockerGnome Forums” in the title?
Because many of you remember ‘em, and there’s a high possibility of their spirit returning if that’s how people organically begin to use the server.
If you wanna see the more traditional forums, they’ll be here.
But this - none of this - is purely about tech, nor is it purely about Chris Pirillo. It’s about reveling in our shared experiences (living life as so-called geeks and nerds, having more than one passion or interest, being separate yet still connected).
Despite me being “stuck” with a personal “Chris Pirillo” brand, it has always been my intention to be a conduit to connect y’all with one another and not always be at the center. I feel like approaching the (nostalgic?!) 24/7 video feed with a shared-space format is a step in the right direction.
It might even signal a return of a LockerGnome brand, but only if this 24/7 YouTube stream works for me, you, and others - if it receives critical support and encouragement. That’s beyond my control.
My only goal is to try.
Yours Digitally,
Chris Pirillo
