Greetings, Programs!
First, yes, I turned 52 last week - and it was an incredibly sad birthday. Please don’t say “happy birthday” until you fully understand why it wasn’t.
Second, this legacy mailing list - yes, the same one I started in 1996 - was forced to prune its membership since a bulk of subscribers (50%?!) weren’t opening issues.
I mean, it’s not like I haven’t been keeping y’all posted on everything in my world… but, I guess the world’s a different place than it used to be.
Could I simply migrate to another newsletter platform? Sure, and incur additional costs without being able to recoup them. I’m still grateful that a handful of y’all have upgraded your membership, though!
So, hello (again) to half of y’all - and to a fraction of who was there in the beginning.
Why I Canceled My Netflix Account
I’ve had a Netflix account for decades, but… it’s been around… because that’s just the way it’s “always” been?
I just don’t have the time to watch the things I’d like to watch - nor do I have the discretionary budget anymore. Canceling really had nothing to do with the quality of content that Netlfix has to offer (which, as far as I’m concerned, is pretty much on par with every other streaming media service that I’ve used).
As I was looking to upgrade an AI subscription directly tied to vibe coding LockerGnome.net back into existence, I knew I’d have to nuke something else - and Netflix was the first thing to go.
I’m saying that I’ve prioritized creating something for other people over enjoying regular entertainment. How’s that for a good reason? You win.
Don’t believe me? Take a look at my screen. That’s me working inside an IDE for the first time in my life! I’m not turning into a software developer, but damned if I don’t try to program products into existence.
Oh, that LEGO set was a surprise birthday gift that arrived after my birthday from Matt Hartley (former LockerGnome team member) when he saw it on my wish list. It made me happy, but… definitely didn’t change the fact that I still have the weight of the world on my shoulders and the stresses I have are still threatening everything that brings me happiness.
What Have I Made for You Recently?
I wanted to get this list out to you earlier, but I had to work through pruning the non-active list members first. I have seven more that I’ve yet to publish, but (as much as I love creating these HTML apps) I’ve been spending a lot of my working time pounding through the LockerGnome.net MVP to get it out the door for y’all to use.
If you can support me in this endeavor, I’d appreciate it… so that I can continue to create for you (and teach you along the way if you ever care to pop into a live stream).
Which is your favorite from this array?
Yours Digitally,
